Yoga for Youth:
Children of all ages enjoy yoga and benefit from its many facets (developmental skills, concentration, interaction, nervous system support, etc.). We have several age groupings (3-5/6 year olds, 7/8-12 year olds & teens) and all of our Yoga for Youth instructors are certified school teachers with experience in public and private schools.

Yoga For Teens:
Is there a more challenging time in life than the teenage years? From a standpoint of changes taking place physically, mentally and emotionally, probably not. Yoga addresses all these issues and this class is specifically designed to bring hormones into balance; clarity and sharpness to the mind; strength, coordination & flexibility to the body; and, above all, an appreciation of and respect for one's body.
Chair Yoga:
This gentle class is especially suited for those who prefer not to be down on the floor. All yoga postures will be done seated in a chair or standing, using the chair to help with support and balance. This class will offer a well-rounded variety of yoga poses, breath work and relaxation designed to leave you feeling stronger, more flexible, calm and energized.
Gentle Yoga:
For people who desire a slower pace; those who need to recover from illness, surgery or injury; or anyone who simply wants a relaxing class. You will learn basics of foundation and how to apply yoga principles in your life as you move gingerly in the poses. Gentle breath techniques and meditation are part of the experience. Poses will be modified for all abilities.
Beginning:
Learn yoga from the very beginning with a taste of history, philosophy, and the foundation poses. Learn the process of yoga and how to apply yoga in your daily life. Emphasis is on utilizing the breath in movements. You will learn a daily routine and how to ground and center your energy. ground and center your energy.
Beginning & Beyond:
Refresh your understanding of yoga from the beginning. This class is designed to teach and re-teach the basics of foundation, grounding, movement, breathing, and relaxation. Class focus will be on proper alignment and adapting yoga to your physical and mental needs. A great class for active people starting yoga for the first time, returning to yoga after a time away, or for experienced students wishing to strengthen the foundation of their practice.
Continuing:
A vigorous practice, flowing or dynamic, that builds inner fire while developing strength, flexibility, and endurance. The sequence is designed to warm the body and may include sun salutations of increasing stretch and opening. This series tones the endocrine system and relaxes the nervous system. Prerequisite: Beginning & Beyond or teacher approval.
Continuing Plus:
The focus of this strong intermediate class is to build strength and provide motivation for your own personal practice. You will be guided in ways of breaking the cycle of stress, balancing energy flow with vinyasa, understanding mudras & sounds in practice, and utilizing breath techniques for specific concerns. Each session follows a theme and the teaching is progressive. Continuing Plus is for well-conditioned & experienced students only.
Powerful Yoga:
A class for people in good aerobic physical condition, especially active, young adult or flexible, experienced students who enjoy a vigorous workout. A flowing routine, incorporating Sun Salutations & standing poses with a variety of floor poses and inversions, will increase strength and flexibility. This is a cardio intensive practice that detoxifies the body - you will sweat! An understanding of beginning foundations is most helpful.
Yoga For Athletes:
A dynamic practice of poses for increased flexibility and balance while building greater core strength. The class is designed specifically for very active people of all ages. Come prepared for a vigorous workout. No previous yoga experience required.
Kundalini Breath Class:
For continuing students, a delightful Kundalini routine; a series of synchronizing the breath with movement that literally opens tense areas of the body, clears the head, and gives an incredible overall body feeling of flexibility and resiliency. Great for boosting the immune system and soothing the entire nervous system. Prerequisite: Beginning & Beyond or teacher approval.
Sunrise Flow:
Yoga is a great morning tonic for the body and mind. This is an invigorating series of Sun Salutations that work all the muscle groups and joints in the body. The Flow Series conditions and tones the entire body - a balalnce practice in itself and a great way to start the day!
Guided Meditation:
An ancient healing practice for mind, body and soul. This guided meditation experience is practiced seated in a chair. All levels are welcome.
Pre Natal:
A yoga class designed for the special needs of women journeying toward motherhood. No previous yoga experience is required.
Yin Yoga:
A quiet practice that brings balance to the muscular body by passively working & rehabilitating connective tissue & ligaments with gentle traction and breath. An excellent class for gaining flexibility in joints and in the mind. Well suited for overactive minds & bodies; arthritis, including fibromyalgia, neuromuscular issues; healing old injuries, and much more. No previous yoga experienced required. All levels.
Yin Yang Flow:
The first half of the class will be based on a quiet yin style practice, allowing the passive poses to massage the connective tissue, open the hips, calm the nervous system, and bring balance into the entire body/mind. The second half of class will evolve into a series of more active, yang style poses, including invigorating Sun Salutations, which condition the muscles, bones, and joints of the body. Focus will be on flowing yin and yang style poses with the breath, allowing the breath to gently guide to body/mind deeper into the poses. Appropriate for students who have an understanding of basic foundations
Yoga for Back Issues:
Regardless of age, activity level, medical history, and current back condition, this therapeutic class will bring relief to your situation. Most importantly, you'll learn basic yoga movements that you can practice at home to ease, and possibly remedy, your back issue. All levels. Must Pre Register.
Yoga for Arthritis and Stiff Bodies:
A specialty, therapeutic class for tight bodied folks and those suffering with arthritis. Come look at a fresh new perspective of arthritis, including fibromyalgia, and take home ideas each week for creating change and healing. All Levels. Must Pre Register.
Qigong Tai Chi - Path of Discovery:
Discover this system of beautiful flowing movements, relaxed breathing and meditation to awaken internal energy, build strength & endurance, enhance flexibility, improve balance & coordination and reduce the stress of daily life. This class offers beginners, and returning students alike, a solid foundation for continued practice.
Creative Dance:
A class for creative and expressive dance, combined with a modern dance warm-up and a playful study of improvisation technique. Hughthir White has a degree from the Naropa Institute and has an extensive background in modern dance, improvisation and choreography. He is currently Artist in Residence at the Children's Center in Leland.
Back/Posture Clinic:
An introductory posture and spine tuning class for anyone dealing with back pain or discomfort, as well as hip or shoulder issues. Chiropractor Carrie Mayes and Yoga Therapist Libby Robold conduct this clinic on the first Tuesday evening of most months. Each class is designed around the group in attendance. Limited to ten participants. No prior yoga experience required.
Private Classes, with Yoga Therapist Libby Robold, may be scheduled for yoga or therapy. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is an integrated system of supporting the body in positions based on classic yoga postures while using non-directive, verbal techniques. Unresolved emotional experiences, stored in your body/mind, are often hidden from conscious awareness. Yoga Therapy is a safe, painless process that allows for the release of both physical & emotional tensions. Familiarity with yoga is not necessary.
Reiki, with therapist Margaret Magner, is available for one-on-one energy balancing and healing (coming to wholeness) sessions.
Foot Zoning, with Linda Forster, is available by appointment for a one-on-one assessment of your body's health issues through foot manipulation.
